Progress on fundraising to rebuild the Mossom Creek Hatchery after a devastating fire last December is being made with $12,000 donated by the community and businesses to match a $75,000 grant offer from Imperial Oil.
"This one-time matching fund opportunity of $75,000, generously provided by Imperial, will greatly enhance our efforts to complete phase one of the rebuild plan," said Ruth Foster, founder and director of the Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society, which operates the Port Moody hatchery.
Tom Huffaker, president of the Imperial Foundation, said the matching grant offer represents the company's commitment to communities in which it operates. "The Mossom Creek Hatchery has a history of important work in the region and we look forward to seeing it fully operational again after the rebuilding is complete," he said in a press release.
Mossom has until Sept. 15 to match the grant offer.

Last month, hatchery volunteers held a ceremonial ground-breaking for the project.
