A motorcyclist managed to avoid serious injuries after an early morning collision with an automobile on Highway 1 in Coquitlam.

The incident occurred in the westbound lane near the King Edward Overpass shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

According to RCMP Traffic Services Cpl. Robert McDonald, an automobile driver swerved into the HOV lane to avoid rear ending a vehicle in front of her. The car made contact with the bike, throwing the motorcyclist off his vehicle.

"She swerved," McDonald said. "The motorcycle driver was thrown off his bike but the injuries are not life-threatening."

McDonald also noted that a violation ticket had been issued to the person behind the wheel of the car for driving contrary to a restriction.
