A Port Coquitlam man was swimming with family members late Monday afternoon in the Alouette River near the Silver Bridge when he was observed to be in trouble and not able to reach the shore.
Today, Tuesday, the BC Coroners Service has confirmed that Jagit Khangura, aged 44, of Port Coquitlam, died in the incident that took place at about 5:50 p.m.
Family members called 911 and emergency services responded immediately. About 8:30 p.m., Khangura was located on the river bottom and recovered by a diver from the Canadian Coast Guard.
Khangura was deceased at the scene and the BC Coroners Service and RCMP are continuing to investigate this death.
His family has been notified of his death and the media are being asked to respect the the family's privacy.
