The money will be used by parent advisory councils and support groups across the region to plan field trips and dances, as well as for much-needed sports equipment.

Money is flowing to the Tri-Cities from Victoria to help K–12 students enjoy their studies — and be rewarded with some fun, too.

B.C. has granted a total of $632,960 to 72 public and independent schools in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and Anmore, which will be used by parent advisory councils (PACs) to plan extra-curriculars.

The investment for the 2022–23 calendar year is set to cover dances, field trips, performances and other organized activities, as well as buying sports equipment for school teams.

"Learning, fun and growth also takes place outside the regular school curriculum, and parent advisory councils are key partners in keeping students and their families engaged and connected to those opportunities for enrichment," said Anne Kang, B.C.'s minister of municipal affairs.

"Community Gaming Grants to PACs and DPACs [District Parent Advisory Councils] help fund everything from robotics and photography clubs to playground equipment and chess competitions, strengthening students' lives and building on their school experience."

The funding is supported by community gaming grants, a provincial government release states, and the latest round is part of an $11-million pot for more than 1,300 schools.

The majority of local schools receiving grants are affiliated with School District 43 (SD43).
