Every year, tons of textiles end up in landfills. But as much as 95% of these textiles and clothes could be used again. That's why from August 19th - 28th Coquitlam Centre is teaming up with H&M to help reduce the waste that is produced by fashion, by collecting used clothes from any brand, in any quality or condition.
"If you've got something worn, torn or hopelessly out of style - don't throw it away. Help reduce the amount of fashion being wasted. We want to encourage our customers to support this cause," states Deborah Stetz, marketing director at Coquitlam Centre. "For each of the first two bags of clothes you donate at our Guest Services Centre, you will receive a voucher for $5 off your next H&M purchase of $30 or more, and you get a chance to enter to win a $500 shopping spree."
H&M is the first fashion retailer to create an initiative of recycling garments and it will be active in all 48 of their markets, including all of their Canadian stores. Vickie Certosini of the H&M marketing department says, "We want to offer an easy solution for our customers to leave their worn out and/or defective garments with H&M and our partner I:CO, while at the same time do something good for the environment and create opportunities to reduce landfill waste."
Coquitlam Centre actively promotes sustainability through their rigorous recycling programs for customers and retailers, hand dryers, energy-saving light fixtures, water recycling in the HVAC systems for cooling mechanisms, electric vehicle charging stations, and so much more. The Centre has recently achieved their level 3 BOMA Certification and is proud to participate in sustainable initiatives wherever possible.
