Coquitlam has a new fire chief.
Wade Pierlot, Vancouver's deputy chief of emergency operations, will take over the reigns from Tony Delmonico on May 13.
Delmonico, who is retiring after five years with the department and 28 years at North Vancouver district, told The Tri-City News yesterday he plans to work with Pierlot until he retires on May 31.
Delmonico said Pierlot has "many challenges ahead of him" as the city grows, especially with the construction of more highrises and the Evergreen Line.
Delmonico plans to continue his work with the BC Forest Service as a sprinkler protection specialist during the summer months and has plans to travel.
He replaced Gord Buchanan, who also retired after five years at the head of the department. Pierlot was one of four fire officers shortlisted for the top job out of more than 30 candidates.
