Where can your out-of-town guests stay when they visit Coquitlam?

What are the city's best parks for jogging or walking a dog?

And how do you host a sporting event for kids or elite athletes?

This month, the city issued its first Travel Guide, 32-page glossy booklet aimed at Lower Mainland day trippers as well as international students, new businesses and event co-ordinators.

The city's economic development manager, David Munro, said the $30,000 publication, which was funded in part by Tourism BC and advertising money, is being distributed at airports, visitor information centres, community sites and hotels.

"There's a lot of information in them that I think Coquitlam residents should be proud of," Munro said.

The Travel Guide replaces the Coquitlam Event Guide, which the city printed annually and listed arts and cultural activities and festivals as well as a directory of attractions and community group.

Munro said data that was not included in the 25,000 copies of the flagship tourism guide will be added to the online version at coquitlam.ca/tourism.

E-INPUT

The Mundy Park dog-leash policy, Burke Mountain roads and Mackin Park public art were among the questions fielded online last Saturday at Coquitlam's first eTownhall.

City councillors and managers took inquiries at the council chambers as well as via email, Twitter and Facebook during the three-hour event - an initiative that's being deemed a success by Mayor Richard Stewart.

"Engaging the public is a challenge in every city," Stewart said in a press release issued Monday. "By adding electronic and internet-based outreach, we can engage more residents and can get higher levels of public input into important issues."
