New turf for Trasolini field, a bike trail bridge over Noons Creek and the reconstruction of the boardwalk and pedestrian bridge along Inlet Trail are among the major projects in Port Moody’s provisional capital budget for the coming year.
In total, the city anticipates spending $17.2 million — all of it from reserve funds. Council’s finance committee will consider the draft plan at its meeting today (Nov. 16).
At $2.5 million, the reconstruction work on the Inlet Trail boardwalk and pedestrian bridge is the most expensive project, while the new turf at Trasolini field will cost $1.1 million. The Noons Creek bike bridge is budgeted at $600,000.
Other major capital expenses include:
- $1.1 million = Rehabilitate water systems in the Glenayre/Seaview/College Park neighbourhood
- $1 million = Work on local roads
- Plus, another $300,000 for major roads
- $750,000 = Reconstruction work along Ioco Road
- $255,000 = Replacing the roof at the works yard
- $250,000 = Dredge around the pier at Rocky Point Park
Some of the smaller projects looking to get funded for the coming year include:
- $150,000 = Maintain and replace traffic signals around the city
- $50,000 = New fireplace at the library
- $20,000 = Replace the fence at the Rocky Point Park pool
- $21,000 = Oral screening devices to allow police to test drivers for cannabis consumption
In a report, Tyson Ganske, Port Moody’s manager of financial planning, said while all of the capital projects in the draft budget can be funded from city reserves or external sources, five proposed projects worth $220,000 would have an ongoing impact on the city’s operating budget and could require a tax increase.
He adds final approvals should be in place by the end of the year so staff can begin planning for the projects early in the new year.
