The long-awaited Lincoln Station on Coquitlam Centre property is starting to take shape with some upcoming construction work expected to take place at night, starting Jan. 4.
According to a bulletin from EGRT Construction, the contractor responsible for building the $1.4 million Evergreen Line, crews will soon start delivering large concrete girders to the work site near the future station and removing steel brackets on the elevated guideway crossover on Pinetree Way.
The work has to take place at night, according to the bulletin, because of the size of the girders and the need for lane closures on Pinetree Way and will result in temporary nighttime stoppages of traffic and some construction noise, although efforts will be taken to mitigate it.
Among the issues drivers and nearby residents can expect are:
Deliveries and installation of the girders will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will continue intermittently for approximately three weeks.
Temporary nighttime stoppages of traffic on Pinetree Way between Northern Avenue and Lincoln Avenue to deliver the girders.
As well, there will be nighttime lane closures on Pinetree Way between Northern Avenue and Glen Drive to remove steel brackets from the elevated crossover. The work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for a week beginning Jan. 4.
After girders are installed, the rest of the work to build the station can take place, including escalator and glass installation, and station finishings. Most of the work is expected to take place during the day.
The project is a milestone for Coquitlam which lobbied heavily for the Lincoln Station, which was finally added to the route with the contribution of $7 million from the federal government and $21 million from Pensionfund Realty Ltd., a privately-held real estate company that owns the mall, and the City of Coquitlam.
