The end date for a construction project along Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam is now mid- to late-February.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, city staff said the contractor for the bridge deck repair — north of Dewdney Trunk Road — has procured the stainless steel rebar for the work.

And the concrete will be poured on the deck before the end of this month, weather depending.

“Once poured, the concrete deck will have to cure a minimum of 14 days before it can be opened to traffic,” said Chad Braley, Coquitlam’s manager of capital projects and inspections, in an email to the Tri-City News.

Afterwards, a sidewalk will be completed; however, “this work can be done with minimal interruption to traffic,” Braley added.

Coquitlam and TransLink are spending $2.4 million to replace the concrete deck of the 49-year-old structure.

The project, which is being handled by Klondike Infrastructure Ltd., started on May 8, 2023.

Since then, commuters along Lougheed Highway have had to merge into one lane to avoid the construction site.
