A former Port Moody resident who moved last month to Coquitlam's burgeoning Burke Mountain says she and her husband have been getting the run-around from Canada Post.
On Wednesday, Hillary Westover asked The Tri-City News to look into the lack of delivery for their new address as she has yet to receive any mail since they moved on May 24.
That has meant her father-in-law, who lives with the couple, hasn't received a disability cheque and they haven't received their bank or credit card statements. As well, a doctor's note about Westover's cancer treatment has yet to appear.
She told The Tri-City News the problems started as soon as they got into their newly built house, which is located along an arterial road on Burke, with older homes on the other side. At first, they were given the postal code of V3B 2V6, which was confirmed by a Canada Post employee on May 29. As a result, the couple changed their addresses on their personal ID, alerted their bank and redirected their mail.
But when nothing arrived, the couple started to call Canada Post, wondering where their mail was.
They were told several stories, she said:
their mail was to be sent to a community mailbox down the street and they should have received a notice to pick up the keys;
the mail was to come to their door (they bought a $40 mailbox);
and their new community mailbox wasn't installed yet and they had to wait.
They were also informed they were given the wrong postal code in the beginning. It is now V3B 3H6.
"I have worked in customer service before and I try to be really accommodating," she said, "but this has been really frustrating for us."
Westover said her husband has checked with the closest postal office, in Port Coquitlam, and has collect some mail, but not all.
Last week, they reached out for help to the city of Coquitlam and their MLA's office.
Yesterday, John Caines, a Canada Post spokesperson, acknowledged there has been confusion as some parts of Burke Mountain are new and changing. But he said the Westovers' mail has been - for the most part - available for pick-up at the PoCo station.
"None of it has gone anywhere," he said.
Caines also said a new community mailbox would likely be in place for their neighbourhood today (Friday).
