No problems despite heavy rains in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam

City crews were out in full force yesterday and continue to monitor roads for potential flooding and high-water areas around the Coquitlam River in the wake of a series of rain storms that have deluged the Lower Mainland in recent days.

A spokesperson for the city of Coquitlam said there haven't been any major problems but regular crews are out to check up on the situation while in Port Coquitlam the city is patrolling and maintaining dikes and pump stations.

The cities are also monitoring Environment Canada weather reports which had predicted a major rain storm today with up to 40 to 70 mm of rain.

Residents are asked to keep their storm drains clear of debris and the RCMP is asking people to be extra cautious while driving.

Earlier this week warnings went out for people to stay clear of the banks of the Coquitlam River and creeks and streams because of high water levels. What looks like stable ground can be eroded beneath and can give way without warning.
