Olympic rower to speak to Coquitlam youth

An Olympic silver medalist will be speaking to high school, college and university students next week during a leadership forum organized by the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce.

Darcy Marquardt, a world champion rower, will be one of three keynote speakers Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7-9 p.m. in the Douglas College Auditorium/Lecture Hall at the David Lam (Coquitlam) campus.

She replaces Brittany Timko, who had to bow out because of a conflict, but the event organizer says Marquardt also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be inspiring to young people.

Rick Pasin, chair of the chamber's Youth Entrepreneurial Committee, said he was impressed with the speed and efficiency of the Canadian Olympic Committee who offered to find a suitable replacement for Timko, a Bronze medal soccer player.

The other two speakers at the forum co-sponsored by The Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club, are Tom Grant, superintendent of School District 43 and Anita Huberman, CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade.
