The city is inviting residents to protect a beloved outdoor space by getting down in the dirt and ripping out plants and shrubbery.

The weekend weather is looking good with predicted sunny breaks in Port Moody.

And with the forecast slowly warming up, city staff are looking to start cutting down on invasive plants from a popular park in order to help other species be green and great.

Residents are being invited to Shoreline Trail on Sunday morning (Feb. 6) to lend a helping hand in taking out long-growing plants and vegetation to clear paths and trees wanting to sprout.

The work is primarily set for off the trail east of the Port Moody Recreation Complex.

An event description explains the tasks will be physically demanding so interested participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes or boots and clothes that can get dirty.

Other equipment, such as gloves, eye-wear and tools, will be provided by Port Moody's environment and parks department.

The invasive plant removal is set for Sunday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. — rain or shine.

It's free for anyone to attend but those under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult, the event description adds.

Interested residents are asked to meet the group at Shoreline Park across from the railway crossing near Trasolini Field.
