On Our Radar: Time for a little cha-cha-cha and dance-dance-dance in Coquitlam

Host Salsa Dance Zone is bringing its own heat to the Town Centre Park stage for one night only this summer.

Saturday night (June 25) is salsa night in Coquitlam — and it'll be the only one for the summer.

Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler lit of the TD Community Plaza stage in Town Centre Park almost every week last year and brought thousands of local residents out to test their footwork and rhythmic abilities to Latin beats.

The Hot Salsa Dance Zone instructors are hosting the free electric evening tomorrow for, what they call, Lafarge Park Fiesta 2022.

Interested participants to the second annual event will be encouraged to commit to the enticing dances of salsa, cha-cha, bachata and merengue.

All dances will be taught from at a beginners level, but people of all skills are welcome to join the fun.

Gonzalez and Szefler have passed along their love of dance to the Tri-Cities since 2008.

"This unique festival, offering a taste of Latin American culture and dance, is for all the public, including singles, couples, families (children included) and friends," explains Gonzalez to the Tri-City News.

"It's a great experience, simulating a cool summer day with a feeling that you are in Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica or Colombia!"

A beginners orientation starts at 7 p.m. The big dance party will follow from 7:45 to 10 p.m.

No registration is required and participants are encouraged to bring a bottle of water to cool down from the heat of the summer sun (or from the dance floor).
