On the road again: More than 200 vehicles to cruise around Port Coquitlam after COVID-19 hiatus

Downtown Port Coquitlam Car Show organizers are planning a parade of more than 200 vehicles around town after the pandemic cancelled its 2020 edition.

Classic car junkies will soon shine their wheels and parade the streets of Port Coquitlam once again.

After the COVID-19 pandemic and health protocols of the time forced its cancellation in 2020, the Downtown PoCo Car Show is returning this weekend for vehicle owners to show off their collectibles while local residents bask in the excitement.

Now, the two-hour cruise will take place and will feature upwards of 250 vehicles, but the show itself won't go on, organizers explained in a social media post.

This is likely due to the restrictions on outdoor organized gatherings during Step Three of B.C.'s COVID-19 restart plan.

It states an event can only host 5,000 people or 50% capacity, whichever is greater, and in years past, the Car Show has brought in upwards of 70,000 people to browse through the lines of vehicles.

Organizers encourage spectators to set up chairs along the marked route so that everyone can safely enjoy the cruise and the music of the Blues Brothers leading the pack.

The cruise begins at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 8 p.m.; the parade will start and finish in Gates Park (2300 Reeve St.).
