One man is in custody after allegedly dousing three people with what is believed to be pepper spray Monday morning at the Waves Coffee House on Shaughnessy Street in Port Coquitlam.
The incident took place shortly after 10 a.m. and police arrested a suspect a short distance from the scene who fit the description given by the victims.
"We don't have a motive at this point," said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung. "It could be a case of mistaken identity. It could be something else entirely... The file is still under investigation."
He said the victims are co-operating with police and did not know their attacker. The three people sprayed and their attacker are all men believed to be in there 20s and 30s.
Chung added that the Mounties have obtained surveillance video footage believed to have captured the attack and the forensic identification team is analysing the evidence.
The suspect is currently in custody and police are recommending four charges. Chung said he would not comment on the specific counts until the charges are approved by the Crown.
Several witnesses also gave their accounts of what happened but police are looking for others to come forward. Chung said anyone who saw the incident is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2012-9344.
