Pile driving ramped up again this week for the rebuild of the Port Coquitlam recreation complex.

But the hammering is only for one day: today (Tuesday).

City spokesperson Pardeep Purewal said the contractor needed to drive a few of the Phase 2 piles to finish off the exit path from the south entry.

Given the quick work, neighbouring residents and business owners weren’t notified, she said.

Lori Bowie, PoCo’s recreation director and a construction project leader, told council last week the pile driving wouldn’t be as loud as in the fall of 2017 as the contractor would be using a drop-hammer rather than a diesel method.

Phase 1 of the 205,000 sq. ft. facility is set to open this fall while Phase 2 is slated to end by late 2021.

When complete, the $132-million centre will include a leisure pool, three ice sheets, library, multi-use spaces, games room and lounge, café, gym, fitness centre and an outdoor plaza.
