School District 43 (SD43) students have to wear masks on March 11, 2022, but won't have to after spring break.

Don't throw away those masks just yet, kids.

School District 43 (SD43) will still require them to be worn by those in kindergarten to Grade 12 tomorrow (March 11) — the last day before a two-week spring break.

Afterwards, when classes are back in session on March 28, masks will not be required and will be considered "optional" for students and staff.

In an online post today, SD43 officials made the announcement.

"Masks for students and staff in K-12 settings will still be required for Friday, March 11. Health and safety protocols like frequent handwashing, distancing, and other measures will also remain in effect," the statement reads.

It also alerts the provincial health officer and B.C.'s ministry of education will be providing more updates in the weeks ahead regarding other safety protocols for the K-12 setting, which will be communicated to families prior to March 28.

Today (March 10), Dr. Bonnie Henry announced it was lifting mask orders first thing at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow.

The province also revealed Thursday it plans to axe vaccine cards as of April 8.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry had hinted in the past few weeks such requirements might be loosened after a review from health officials.

Masks will still be required in health-care settings, physicians’ offices and patient contact areas.

Long-term care visits will be restored March 18.

In a statement, TransLink confirmed it will also be lifting its mask requirement order although it will take awhile to remove all the signage. People can still wear a mask if they choose.

"In alignment with provincial health orders, masks will no longer be mandatory on most TransLink services effective midnight tonight," the release states.

TransLink will continue its mandatory mask requirement for customers and employees on HandyDART at this time.
