Aynsley Wong Meldrum and Nadine Kainz have their arms filled with produce and goodies as they get ready to open the 9th annual Port Coquitlam Farmers' Market on Thursday.
Wong Meldrum, the market manager, said up to 60 vendors will be at Leigh Square Community Arts Village on Thursdays — between 3 and 7 p.m. — until Sept. 28.
Among the additions this year are: Persephone Brewing Company, which will not only sell bottles and offer tastings but also fill growlers; a smokey dog stand from Hopcott Meats, run by Paul Dwillies (the longtime co-ordinator of the Haney Farmers Market); a kiosk by Western Sky Books, PoCo's newest book seller; and a food truck by Taste of Heaven, a social enterprise that supports the homeless.
And for market-goers looking for a slice of the opening day carrot cake, acting mayor Coun. Mike Forrest will have his ceremonial knife ready, Wong Meldrum said.
As well, throughout the season, there will be themed activities. Next Thursday will feature a senior's tea.
