A group of parents is planning to hold a rally at Port Moody-Coquitlam MLA Linda Reimer's office in the hopes of raising awareness about their education funding concerns.
Lisa Cable, one of the rally organizers, said the rally - Friday, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. - is a chance for parents to voice their concerns about funding issues in School District 43.
"We just want the government to know that parents are paying attention and they're concerned and we're no longer standing by and watching what happens," said Cable, who said the group is calling itself Parents4BC (www.facebook.com/Parents4BC or email [email protected]).
Cable, who has a son in kindergarten and a younger daughter who is hearing impaired, said she has heard that education funding is at its highest level ever but SD43 can't balance its budget without job cuts affecting vulnerable students and students with special needs.
"I'm worried when my daughter gets into kindergarten she won't be able to get what she needs," she said.
Parents 4BC is not affiliated with any political group and Cable said she hopes the Tri-Cities' District Parent Advisory Council will help spread the word about the rally, which is to take place at 203-130 Brew St., Port Moody.
On Tuesday, the board of education was expected to approve a balanced $301-million budget with $13.4 million in cuts.
