Real estate developer Onni has been granted a bylaw reprieve from the city of Port Moody after hitting a potentially disastrous roadblock to the construction of its The Residences tower at Suter Brook Village.
In May, while doing preliminary work on the building's underground parking area, workers came upon a wayward Metro Vancouver sewage main pipe that veered outside of its proper right of way, interfering with the tower plans.
A redesign of the parking lot was undertaken, but Onni had to ask Port Moody council last Tuesday to allow their lot to vary from the city's off-street parking bylaw which mandates that lots contain no more than 20% small-car spaces and must have a parking lot drive aisle wider than 6.7 m.
Onni's request was granted, meaning 32% of The Residence's underground parking will be small car spaces, which amounts to 97 spaces out of a total 304. The drive aisle will also be slightly more difficult to navigate at a reduced width of 6.6 m.
Council asked that Onni inform all potential buyers if the parking space allotted to their suite is a small car space.
