Next week is a busy time for parks parties in Coquitlam.

Tuesday (Sept. 10), the city will be offering refreshments and free family activities between 5 and 7 p.m. at Cottonwood Park to highlight recent upgrades. The event will mark the opening of new play equipment, a water-play area, a youth area, picnic shelter and other amenities.

The upgrades are part of the first phase of a longer-term plan for the park. According to a press release, the city intends to make Cottonwood Park an important hub for the neighbourhood, expanding it by five acres in 2020. When the work is complete, it will include a ball diamond and sports field, a multi-sport court and outdoor games tables.

The next day (Sept. 11), Burke Mountain residents will get a chance to see the new Riley Park during a grand opening between 5 and 7 p.m. The event will feature a ribbon cutting, face painting, children’s entertainment, refreshments as well as Coquitlam Public Library’s Library Link.
