Pay for parking along Pinetree next month

A number of solar-powered parking stations now dot Pinetree Way in Coquitlam near Town Centre Park and Douglas College's David Lam campus, ready for their Sept. 1 start-up.

A number of solar-powered parking stations now dot Pinetree Way in Coquitlam near Town Centre Park and Douglas College's David Lam campus, ready for their Sept. 1 start-up.

By the middle of next month, a total of 22 machines, monitored by Precise Parklink Inc., will be operational along the busy corridor as well as at the City Centre Aquatic Complex, Pinetree community centre, Evergreen Cultural Centre and Lincoln Street parking lot as well as on Glen Drive, The High Street and Town Centre Boulevard.

Although the city previously lost thousands of dollars on metered pay parking in Town Centre over a number of years, the parking management program is expected to be "revenue neutral" for taxpayers as of next year, said Dan Mooney, Coquitlam's manager of roads and traffic operations.

As for the 75 cent-per-hour price, the devices will accept credit cards and cash.
