COQUITLAM — The Centennial Centaurs are now tied for first place in the Coquitlam Secondary Schools Athletic Association's senior boys soccer standings.

The Centennial Centaurs retained a claim to first place in the Coquitlam Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys soccer standings with a 3-1 win over the Port Moody Blues Thursday, Oct. 12.

Both teams had identical records of two wins and a draw (2-0-1) heading into the match at the new turf field next to Centennial Secondary.

The Centaurs opened the scoring after just eight minutes had been played when Markus Latorre struck home a winner from the top of the 18-yard box.

Port Moody tied it late in the first half, but goals by Nick Matheson and Emilio Camele in the second half gave Centennial its third win of the season.

The Centaurs now share first place with the Dr. Charles Best Blue Devils after they defeated the Riverside Rapids 2-1 on Thursday.

Best's victory was also its third of the season against one draw, which occurred against Centennial last Tuesday.

In other matches, Terry Fox defeated Pinetree 6-2 and Heritage Woods beat the Gleneagle Talons 5-3.
