Photos + Video: Port Moody troupe pays tribute to Broadway

"Lullaby to Broadway" is fine-tuned and ready for its debut this week at Ioco Players Theatre in Port Moody.

The cast and musicians with Lullaby to Broadway wrapped up their last rehearsal at PoMoArts last night (Aug. 28).

And today, the Ioco Players Theatre will move its production to the Inlet Theatre at Port Moody City Hall to get ready for the end-of-summer show that opens Thursday (Aug. 31).

Created by the Players artistic director Mike Arseneault, the production pays homage to 21 "groundbreaking show tunes and composers that changed the American theatre stage" over the past six decades.

In total, the musicals have earned 193 Tony nominations and four Pulitzer Prizes, and have been performed more than 53,000 times combined, he said.

Among the songs that Arseneault has included are:

  • "Willkommen" from Cabaret
  • "One Day More" from Les Misérables
  • "Will I" from Rent

Port Moody Coun. Amy Lubik also has a solo: "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" — a tune sung by Madonna in the film version of the musical Evita.

Tickets for Lullaby to Broadway are $35 via Eventbrite.ca or $40 cash at the door on show nights. The production runs Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.; there is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Sept. 2. Visit the Ioco Players Theatre on Facebook for more details.
