Port Moody police are looking for the victim of a possible pellet-gun shooting in the city early Friday evening.
At approximately 5:50 p.m., police received a call from a motorist who witnessed a man in a green Saturn point and possibly shoot a firearm at a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk.
Port Moody police spokesperson Const. Bill Kim said the motorist saw the victim flinch but couldn't say whether the victim was hit with anything or was simply startled at seeing the weapon pointed at them.
The motorist followed the Saturn until police arrived and pulled it over at the intersection of Ioco Road and Newport Drive. Officers searched the vehicle and found a pellet gun closely resembling a real semi-automatic pistol.
"You look at it and it looks like a real gun," Kim said. "I don't know what it is with manufacturers these days trying to make these guns that look like real guns. It just doesn't make any sense."
Police arrested the passenger of the vehicle for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and for consumption of alcohol by a minor.
Police on-scene were unable to locate the victim of the brandishing and possible shooting but are calling on that person to come forward now by calling Port Moody police at 604-461-3456.
Const. Kim emphasized the seriousness of brandishing a replica firearm in light of the recent high-profile shooting death of Port Moody gangster Jonathan Bacon in Kelowna.
