A Port Coquitlam business owner has been named Canada's Outstanding Young Retailer of The Year by Hardware Merchandising Magazine
Chris Galer of Port Coquitlam Building Supplies, a fourth-generation owner, was honoured for his efforts in re-branding Poco Building Supplies, renovating the store and yard all the while increasing sales and maintaining a strong community presence.
Port Coquitlam Building Supplies recently celebrated 90 years in business, all under the Galer family ownership.
Chris will represent Canada at the 2012 North America Retail Hardware Association Conference.
Each year, the North American Retail Hardware Association hosts the Young Retailer of the Year Program in conjunction with the annual NRHA Conference. The program highlights young, aspiring hardware retailers and honors them for outstanding achievement as owners and managers of independently owned hardware and building supply stores in the United States and Canada. The purpose of the program, now in its 16th year, is to recognize outstanding performance and encourage talented young people to pursue a career in the retail hardware business. To date, the program has honored over 100 young retailers.
