A 24-year-old Port Coquitlam native who was drafted eighth overall by the Boston Bruins in 2007 has been signed by the Vancouver Canucks.

On Thursday, Zach Hamill was named to the local NHL team after he played in three games for the Bruins, earning an assist against the Montreal Canadiens in 2011.

He was recalled to Boston during the playoffs, the same season they won the Stanley Cup against the Canucks. Although he didn't qualify to have his name on the trophy, he received a Stanley Cup ring.

Hamill, who played to the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League, is a graduate of Riverside secondary in PoCo.
