PoCo launches Waste-Line smartphone app

A new smartphone app that gives Port Coquitlam residents a personalized garbage collection schedule in their online calendar is now available.

A new smartphone app that gives Port Coquitlam residents a personalized garbage collection schedule in their online calendar is now available.

Called the Waste-Line app, the technology allows the user to sign-up for reminders, stay up to date with any collection changes and receive emergency notifications from the city. It also gives residents an option to report any problems, like a missed pickup, a pothole or a malfunctioning streetlight.

"This new app is a great new online tool for our community," said PoCo Mayor Greg Moore. "It's another way that we're taking advantage of technology that many people are already using - smartphones - to help our residents connect to city services."

The app will also provide advice on how PoCo residents can reduce the amount of waste they send to the landfill and will provide tips on sorting garbage, green waste and recycling.

The app is available for free at the iTunes App store, Google Play or through the city website at www.portcoquitlam.ca/wasteline.
