Mayor Brad West used the new year to shuffle a few roles for Port Coquitlam city councillors.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, West announced Coun. Steve Darling will continue as the community safety delegate and add the sports and recreation role — a position held last year by Coun. Glenn Pollock, who will keep his housing file.
Coun. Laura Dupont remains as the environment advocate for council; she also takes on climate action and parks, two newly created portfolios.
Coun. Nancy McCurrach stays on to champion arts and culture and will also have heritage, youth and seniors’ issues attached to her elected post.
Coun. Darrell Penner continues as the public works and transportation liaison and Coun. Dean Washington remains as finance and vice-chair of committee of council, also starting a new role as the downtown revitalization leader, a position previously held by West.
West will keep steering the development, planning and economic development files.
Meanwhile, the mayor also named the following elected officials to external committees (all of which remain the same as in 2019, except for the SD43 liaison appointment):
• Darling: Port Coquitlam Sports Alliance and the Tri-Cities Child Care Task Force;
• Dupont: Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable and the Tri-Cities Healthy Communities Partnership;
• McCurrach: Fraser Valley Regional Library, Port Coquitlam Arts Council and the Tri-Cities Homelessness and Housing Task Force;
• Penner: School District 43 and Metro Vancouver board (alternate director);
• Pollock: Fraser Health Municipal Government Regional Committee and Port Coquitlam Community Foundation;
• Washington: Port Coquitlam Downtown Business Improvement Association and TransLink Mayor’s Council (alternate director).
