Port Coquitlam's Vanessa Wilson brought home a gold medal from the 2023 Canadian Artistic Gymnastics National Championships in Richmond, B.C.

Vanessa Wilson is reeling in her recent success at the 2023 Canadian women's artistic gymnastics championships.

The Port Coquitlam product won the lone gold medal among 17 athletes representing the Tri-Cities at the nationals meet, held at the Richmond Olympic Oval over the May long weekend.

The 15-year-old's poise and focus allowed her to stay balanced on the beam to ultimately land a finals' score of 9.325 on Monday (May 22).

It was one of four medals she racked up from the event, including three from her level nine category individual competitions.

"Nationals 2023 was such an amazing experience; thank [you] to everyone who made this possible," said Wilson in a social media post.

The Riverside Secondary student also won a pair of silvers in the all-around event (36.624) and uneven bars, setting a new personal best in the process (9.462).

Wilson was also competing for B.C. in the team event for her division.

Her scores in vault, uneven bars and beam aided the team to a bronze medal.

Wilson's nationals momentum carried over from the three medals she accumulated at the western Canadian championships in Alberta three weeks earlier.

She was one of eight Tri-Cities gymnasts to reach the podium at nationals, and one of seven representing the TAG Gymnastics Club to win a medal.

Sienna Fretwell was consistent throughout the four-day event in the level 10 division (ages 12 to 15), claiming three silver medals in three individual competitions.
