The Coquitlam RCMP have identified the make and model of the vehicle they believe was involved in a serious hit-and-run collision on the Mary Hill Bypass last week.
Police said it was likely that cyclist Bruce Rickman was struck by a 2007 or 2008 Toyota Tacoma with black side-view mirrors, an after-market canopy, a dark bug screen and an access or double cab. Investigators were able to determine the type of vehicle based on witness accounts and pieces of the truck, including the mirror and bug screen, that were left at the scene.
Cpl. Quentin Frewing said anyone with knowledge of a vehicle matching the description, particularly if it has had recent repairs, should contact the Coquitlam RCMP.
"It's just a matter of time before we know who you are," he said. "Right now you still have time to do the right thing and turn yourself in."
Rickman was recently released from the intensive care unit and is still recovering. Frewing told media that the family wishes to be left alone at this time.
The collision occurred just before midnight on July 30 on the Mary Hill Bypass, just north of Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam. According to police, Rickman was riding home from work on the east shoulder when he was hit from behind by an SUV.
