Police kept hopping on Halloween

As mini ghouls and goblins went door-to-door ferreting out free candy, Port Moody Police and Coquitlam RCMP officers were busy responding to loud parties, fireworks calls and even a drunk driver or two.

Coquitlam Cpl. Jamie Chung said about 30% of the calls logged were related to causing a disturbance, noise bylaws and public drunkenness. "We also investigated a number of fireworks complaints and several common assaults."

Chung said officers took four drunk drivers off the road and responded to three assaults, none of which resulted in life-threatening injuries.

In Port Moody, officers reported a busy evening but "people were for the most part on good behaviour," said Const. Luke van Winkel.

One person was issued a 90-day driving prohibition for drunk driving and another received a 24-hour prohibition for driving while under the influence of drugs.

As well, van Winkel said there were a few complaints regarding loud parties and fireworks, but only three seizures, yielding about 100 fireworks.

"It was great to see many families and community areas decorated for all the trick-or-treaters," he added.
