You won't be able to get away with speeding in a school zone next week.
Police across the province, including in Port Moody, will be cracking down on drivers exceeding the speed limit in school zones beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3.
"Our officers will be out and about enforcing school zone activity and helping to make sure everyone gets around safely," said PoMo Police Department spokesperson Const. Luke van Winkel, noting the fine is $109 for a school zone speeding offence.
Unless otherwise posted, a 30 km/h speed limit is in effect in school zones from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days.
HOV lane cheaters will also be ticketed, van Winkel said, and police will also be enforcing the rules for new drivers.
"Parents of teenage drivers and teen drivers are reminded to follow the restrictions of their licences. The police will be out looking for various motor vehicle offences, including teenage drivers with too many passengers, failing to display their 'N' signs, and generally driving contrary to the restrictions of their licence," he said.
These offences also carry a $109 fine.
