Council unanimously passed the bylaw amendments at Tuesday's meeting, making it the second city in B.C. to ban shark fins.

Last week, Coquitlam passed a motion to ban shark fins and staff there are now looking into how to implement it.

After obtaining a legal opinion on the matter, PoMo pursued the ban as part of its business licensing bylaw. Businesses found possessing or distributing shark fins will be subject to a $500 fine.
