Port Moody is about to begin developing a plan for revitalizing Clarke Street.
On the recommendation of its heritage commission, city council voted to move ahead with coming up with ways to breathe new life into Clarke between Kyle and Elgin streets. Mayor Mike Clay noted the commission’s comments on the Queen Street plaza.
“The plaza either needs to be activated or removed — one or the other. It’s flat, dead and unloved. It needs reasons for people to come and collect,” said a commission report.
It went on to outline several suggestions including chess tables and chairs, and a proper stage area for entertainment.
The commission also made comments on “lighting, a lack of way-finding and historical information, a lack of a distinct character standards for the streetscape and concerns regarding maintenance and up-keep both on city and private property.”
