The city is set to conduct annual upgrades, including draining, cleaning and painting.

Since its grand opening last year, the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) has become a popular go-to spot for exercise and recreation for local residents.

But, for about 10 days, those who use its leisure pool will have to swim elsewhere.

City staff are set to undergo maintenance, which will be become an annual re-occurrence at the $132-million facility, in order to upkeep key components of the public pool.

Work is being done between Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, June 7 to ensure health and safety regulations are met, reads a city news release today (May 25).

Improvements include draining the pool, repairing and re-grouting tiles, painting some areas, maintaining its mechanical system and other miscellaneous tasks.

Most other amenities at the PCCC are set to stay open during normal hours of operation: the arenas, spray park, weight room and gymnasium.

For more information, you're encouraged to visit the City of Port Coquitlam's website.

In the meantime, city staff suggest the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Ave.) and Centennial Outdoor Pool (3050 Chester St.) as alternative facilities local residents and swimmers can visit during the temporary closure.
