Port Coquitlam BIA wants feedback for new downtown brand

Downtown Port Coquitlam has plenty of eateries, beauty and health shops, and lawyers offices.

Downtown Port Coquitlam has plenty of eateries, beauty and health shops, and lawyers offices.

But what more could it have to make the core a bigger draw for residents and shoppers?

That's the question the PoCo Business Improvement Association is asking the public this month as it sets its sights on the future.

Until June 12, the BIA is gauging feedback via an online survey (at pocobia.com) and offering participants a chance to win one of three prizes offered by three businesses: Giggle Dam Theatre, Urban Man Cave and Under the Moon.

Consultant Jeff Nixon of Synergist Communications, which has been hired by the PoCo BIA and was previously involved in marketing campaigns for the Maple Ridge, New Westminster and Harrison Hot Springs BIAs, said the outreach is designed to get input from a wide demographic.

"Although the BIA focuses on its members, we still need to hear from residents and visitors anyone who uses or has been to downtown PoCo," Nixon said.

Already, the online results have been impressive, with more than 1,000 responses since the survey launched two weeks ago, PoCo Coun. Dean Washington said at Monday's city council meeting.

"I think people are engaged, people are excited" about a rebranding, Nixon said.

Besides the survey, the BIA will host a focus group on Tuesday, May 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gathering Place at Leigh Square Community Arts Village (beside PoCo city hall). Participants will also be eligible to win an iPad Mini. To save a spot, call 604-464-1490 or email [email protected].
