Choral Connections will soon be celebrating its 10th year of bringing angelic voices to the Tri-Cities region.

As part of its goal to provide a welcoming environment, the Port Coquitlam group has launched an open call for new singers ahead of its first rehearsal next week.

The organization first formed in September 2013, starting in the band room at Pinetree Secondary before eventually moving to a bigger space at Trinity United Church.

Even through the COVID-19 pandemic, the choir of more than 30 people kept on singing — virtually or in-person at a distance — thanks to the passion and leadership by artistic director Ingrid Gay.

She won the job with Choral Connections in 2014 — a year after the choir began, with Vincent Lo accompanying on piano — and she's since been responsible for picking the tunes each season.

To mix up the repertoire, Gay presents a variety of genres from folk and Canadiana to sacred and Broadway.

"We have also done jazz and rock but, so far, no rap, but you never know," group president Terry Bates said in an earlier interview with the Tri-City News.

Now, the choir is hoping to provide more opportunities for aspiring singers while continuing to respect the health and safety of everyone involved.

Choral Connections is inviting singers of all abilities and tones to join the stage for its 2022-23 season.

It's first rehearsal is scheduled for Tuesday (Sept. 13), 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church in Port Coquitlam (2211 Prairie Ave.), and no audition is required.
