Port Coquitlam lowered its city hall flags to half-mast following Queen Elizabeth's death on Sept. 8, 2022.

Port Coquitlam will observe the National Day of Mourning on Monday (Sept. 19) in recognition of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The decision to shut city hall comes as federal and provincial government offices — as well as schools — will be observing this day as a one-time national holiday.

According to a news release, PoCo will mark Sept. 19 as a public holiday for all city employees, resulting in the closure of civic facilities including the Terry Fox Library.

However, city waste services will continue to run on schedule.

Additionally, recreation facilities, such as the Port Coquitlam Community Centre and Hyde Creek Recreation Centre, will be operating under holiday hours.

Port Coquitlam has also introduced other measures in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

  • Flags have been lowered at city hall and civic buildings.
  • A book of condolence has been set up at city hall and residents are invited to sign the book from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • City hall has also been illuminated in blue to pay tribute to Her Majesty for the remainder of the mourning period
