Vancouver Giants defenders Kyle Bochek and Colton Alain try to keep Prince George Cougars forward Gavin Schmidt from getting to the puck in the second period of their Western Hockey League preseason game in 2022 at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.

Port Coquitlam residents will get first dibs at securing tickets to see some of the best hockey players in the province next month.

Three Western Hockey League (WHL) teams are coming to Jon Baillie Arena inside the PoCo Community Centre (PCCC) to play two exhibition games for a second consecutive year.

The Vancouver Giants will face off against the Prince George Cougars on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. The next night — also at 7 p.m. — Prince George will take on the Victoria Royals.

All three clubs compete in the WHL's B.C. Division. Both the Giants and Cougars made the 2023 playoffs.

At $16 each, tickets will be available at 8 a.m. next Monday (Aug. 14) for hockey fans living in the city, and will go live for the rest of the public the following Thursday (Aug. 17).

You can call 604-927-7529 or visit the following links to purchase tickets to one or both games:

The same three teams played a pair of games at the PCCC last September,  and both drew enthusiastic crowds to the 843-seat capacity arena.

"As we witnessed last year our community are big fans and strong supporters of hockey and we will deliver yet another unforgettable experience for everyone," said Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West in an earlier news release.

The city explained 750 tickets will be available each match-up, and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Those that book in advance can pick up their tickets at the Jon Baillie Arena reception desk between Sept. 5 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or pick them up at will call the day of the games between 5 and 7 p.m. — located in the main corridor across from the gym.

The PCCC will host a concession before and during the games, serving hot dogs, burgers, chips and pop, as well as beer for fans 19 years and older.

Port Coquitlam firefighters are also set to host the Coquitlam RCMP in a charity hockey game outside the arena prior to the Sept. 9 puck drop.

That contest goes for 3 p.m. as part of the pregame celebrations.
