A Port Coquitlam man is facing charges after leading police on a two-hour motorcycle chase across the Lower Mainland Thursday afternoon.
The incident began shortly after 5:30 p.m. when the 29-year-old driver was spotted by RCMP's Air One helicopter driving dangerously across the Pitt River bridge.
Police maintained visual contact with the driver, who was traveling at speeds in excess of 150 km per hour on the Lougheed Highway and in excess of 200 km per hour on the Trans-Canada Highway.
RCMP officers made several attempts to stop the motorcycle but the rider was able to evade the police, leading them through Coquitlam, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond and Vancouver.
By around 7 p.m. the motorcycle was observed pulling into the underground parking lot at Metrotown. Police cruisers moved into the area and we able to locate the driver as he attempted to flee the scene in an SUV being operated by a female.
The SUV was pulled over by a Vancouver city police unit a short time.
Police are recommending charges of dangerous driving and criminal flight. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending the swearing of charges against him.
The driver of the SUV is not facing charges and the Burnaby RCMP traffic section is continuing to investigate.
