New BC Centre for Disease Control data for May 28 to June 3, 2021, breaks down the Tri-Cities into five neighbourhoods for more detailed information: North Coquitlam, Southwest Coquitlam, Southeast Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody-Anmore-Belcarra.

One portion of the Tri-Cities is making progress in the race to higher immunization rates.

In the latest surveillance data from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), the Port Moody-Anmore-Belcarra region reached a 77% rate of vaccines administered to eligible residents aged 12 years and older between May 28 and June 3.

It’s one of five across Fraser Health to now reach the 75% threshold alongside Pitt Meadows, New Westminster, Delta and White Rock — in fact, it boasts the second-highest rate behind Delta-Ladner at 79%.

On May 27, Fraser Health supported the idea of the Mayor’s Immunization Challenge as communities within the authority to see which one could reach an 80% vaccination rate the fastest.

The purpose is to also encourage residents to register for a vaccine in order to meet the province’s restart guide between now and September in hopes of returning to normal activities by the fall.

Every Tri-City community reached the 70% mark on June 2, averaging a 71.5% immunization rate and today, that average is now up to 74.5%.

The region also posted an average week-to-week case rate of 4.6, down from 5.2 in the previous data from May 25 to 31.
