Port Moody Centennial babies to be recognized

Babies born this year to Port Moody families will get special recognition to help the city celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Babies born this year to Port Moody families will get special recognition to help the city celebrate its 100th anniversary.

This Saturday, certificates will be handed out to PoMo families that register their 2013-born babies at the information booth at Rocky Point Park where the city's community picnic and fireworks will be held.

Coun. Gerry Nuttall, who is helping to coordinate the party, said the names of babies who are registered may also be placed in a time capsule that will be sealed for 50 to 100 years.

"If they open it in 50 to 100 years, they'll see there own name," Nuttall pointed out.

Of course, after the picnic, people will be able to register for a certificate online, but getting an official Centennial baby certificate is just one of a number of reasons to head down to Rocky Point Park on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The community picnic kicks off at noon and runs to 10 p.m., featuring big-name entertainment, such as Charlotte Diamond, and ABBA tribute artists ABBRA Cadabra, family games, a roving magician, food and fun.
