Food carts could be coming to Rocky Point park this summer.
On Tuesday, Port Moody council voted unanimously in favour of exploring the possibility of inviting vendors to the summer concert series, which is held on Sundays between June and August.
Coun. Diana Dilworth, who chairs the city's economic development committee, said bringing street eats to the park would increase attendance for the weekly performances.
"It would certainly attract a different demographic," she said. "Certainly, I think the foodie people would be interested."
Port Moody staff will look for information from neighbouring municipalities like Vancouver, where popular food cart programs already exist. Once a report is prepared, it will be brought back to council for a final decision.
But while all councillors supported staff researching the initiative, there were some concerns, particularly around garbage.
Coun. Rick Glumac said he would not support the plan unless vendors had a plan for disposing of the waste associated with their products.
"If all these vendors are giving out food on styrofoam containers, I wouldn't support that," he said. "It will affect my vote."
