If you’re walking in Port Moody, you might want to look down.
Council recently approved spending $95,000 from the city’s sidewalk reserve fund to repair tripping hazards at 25 locations that were identified during inspections conducted earlier this year.
In a report, Jeff Little, the city’s manager of operations, said crews have already fixed 193 high-priority tripping hazards this year and are actively fixing another 431 locations deemed less dangerous.
Port Moody has more than 89 km of sidewalk along its local and major road networks.
Little said the remaining high-priority locations will require the existing concrete sidewalks be removed and replaced, necessitating funds beyond the city’s annual budget of $141,319.
He said any delay to the repairs “may expose the city to further risk and liability associated with injury claims” and impact its ability to make any further repairs to additional hazards that may arise later this year.
Little said the city’s sidewalk reserve fund currently has a balance of $200,000.
