A veteran Port Moody councillor is seeking her seventh term as a local politician in the 2022 municipal election — set for Oct. 15
Diana Dilworth was first elected to council in 1999, and since then, she’s been an advocate for increasing the city's supply of affordable housing and growing the local business community.
More recently, she’s championed for a new seniors centre as well as greater financial accountability and transparency at city hall, along with more oversight from senior levels of government regarding elected officials who’ve been charged for criminal acts.
She's also the chair of Port Moody's heritage commission that works to highlight the city’s history.
In a statement, Dilworth said she hopes to be able to continue that work, as well as make further progress on the city’s climate action and environmental initiatives.
Dilworth is the fourth incumbent seeking a return to council, although Couns. Meghan Lahti and Steve Milani are running for the mayor’s seat that will be vacated by Rob Vagramov after he announced he won’t be running for re-election.
Coun. Amy Lubik is running for her second term, while Couns. Hunter Madsen and Zoe Royer have yet to publicly declare their intentions for the Oct. 15 civic election.
Other candidates who've so far announced they're seeking seats on council include:
The official nomination period for candidates opened yesterday (Aug. 30) and runs until Friday, Sept. 9. The official campaign period begins on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce has also scheduled a series of all-candidates debates for local 2022 civic elections.
Port Moody mayor and council nominees will get the chance to speak to the issues that matter to them, and take questions from the public, at the Inlet Theatre on Sept. 28.
