The architects behind Port Moody's new fire hall have received an award from a firefighting industry organization.

The Fire Industry Equipment Research Organization (FIERO) recognized Chernoff Thompson Architects with a fire station design excellence award.

FIERO, which was established as a non-profit organization to improve firefighter health and safety, noted the Inlet Centre hall's decontamination facilities, energy efficiency and overall safety as reasons to give the award.

PoMo's new fire hall was completed earlier this year at a cost of almost $11 million.

The old fire hall at Ioco Road and Murray Street, is slated for demolition.
