Port Moody is putting a bow on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Tuesday (June 27), council rescinded a corporate policy adopted in 2020 that outlined various protocols and procedures to keep staff and residents safe at the height of the public health crisis.
Among those procedures is a requirement city staff be vaccinated against the virus.
According to a staff report, many of the practices developed by staff and Port Moody’s emergency operations centre during the pandemic following recommendations and guidelines developed by WorkSafeBC, the provincial health officer and the BC Centre for Disease Control, have now been integrated into other city policies and programs.
Some of those included a requirement to wear a mask when entering city facilities, daily health screening for anyone entering a city facility, allowing for two-metre physical distancing requirements by incorporating signs and barriers where appropriate, and providing in-person services by appointment only.
The World Health Organization declared on May 4 that COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency of international concern, although it did say the virus is “an established and ongoing health concern.”
